Unite Behind Football with the Blind World Cup Anthem
With less than 100 days to go until the Blind World Cup kicks off here in Hereford, the Blind 2010 legacy group are launching their own World Cup anthem, and are inviting children across the county to listen out, sing along and get involved.
Unite has been created by professional musician and composer Cara Tivey who now teaches in The Performing Arts department at The Royal National College for the Blind. The College’s world class new sports facility, thePoint4, has been chosen by The FA as the venue for this summer’s IBSA World Blind Football Championship which will be the biggest disability football event ever to have been held in the UK.
Unite will bring together professional musicians and students at the college who will help record and mix the final CD in their music technology suites.
“The song’s inspired by Latin American music and Brazilian Samba sounds and has a really summery feel,” says Cara, who before coming to work at the college recorded She’s Leaving Home with Billy Bragg which raised hundreds of thousands of pounds for the charity Childline . “The words reflect the key message of the Championship’s legacy campaign, encouraging children to celebrate sport, promote better understanding of disability, and to see things differently as a result of watching the games during the Championship. Everyone at the College is so excited about this year’s event it has been great to get them all involved in the creation of this song.”
For tickets or more information about events before and during the Championship contact the local legacy group on 07872 840698 for more details.
