Referees get expert tuition

Referees get expert tuition

In advance of the IBSA World Blind Football Championship, The FA and IBSA are jointly hosting a Futsal level 2 seminar for English referees in February.

The seminar is being held in Hereford with a view to some of those attending being eligible to officiate at the World Championships in August and for a select few to gain enough experience to potentially be selected for the Paralympics in 2012.

The seminar is part of the UEFA-funded IBSA Futsal Development Project Europe and the most recent seminar was held in Thessaloniki, Greece late last year.

The tutor for the course will be Elias Mastoras and the delegates will receive tuition on the rules, completion of the official score sheet, positioning, officiating, common signals along with undertaking a practical session with the England blind team and sitting an exam.

The following ten officials shall be attending:
David Bryant
Jon Cordy
James Adcock
Perry Gascoine
Paul Leversuch
Kevin Pike
Peter Heafield
Craig Grundy
Kevin Shingler

Each of the referees is either on The FA's National Futsal list, have experience of officiating in disability football or have been selected based on their wider football knowledge.

The officials will be supported Sean Dipple, who is currently assisting the LOC in an advisory capacity.

Tournament Director, Jon Dutton said: "We are pleased that IBSA have recognised the need to ensure we have at least a small contingent of qualified English referees at the event and are supporting this seminar. We anticipate that IBSA will be very pleased with the quality of the referees that have been invited.

"This is part of the event legacy, in that we are able to open the pathway for some of our officials to progress through to the future World Championships and the Paralympics."

A great day for the beautiful game

There is much debate about who coined the phrase the ‘beautiful game’ but everyone who has ever used it – from Pele to Platini – meant pretty much the same thing. Football is a game played by 300 million people across the globe, and enjoyed by millions more. It’s beautiful because it unites people. The teams, communities, and countries too.
